dav: Thanks for the comment and I am so glad that you like the alternaview. I think your question is a very important one because we really can become overwhelmed by the number of people that are always in need of assistance. And, I think it can become less overwhelming once we identify other ways to give beyond just financial donations. Perhaps it is a smile or just making a nice comment. In my book, it all counts and the most important thing is that we are generously giving in whatever way we feel most comfortable. Thanks again for the comment. Sibyl

aDeeb: Thanks for the comment and welcome to the alternaview. I do agree that it is easy to get caught up with those things that are not nearly as important as generosity. Once we are able to focus and integrate giving into our life and all we do, it is amazing how things will continually fall into place. Thanks again for the comment. Catrien: Thanks for your comment and I couldn't agree more with everything that you said. I really thought what you said about giving generously from the best part of ourselves was poignant. I also appreciated your comment about the generosity of the universe. its a nice thought but i live in santa barbara and i am asked for money at least 4 times a day by homeless people that just want to buy booze or drugs. there is a lot of homeless here. I like the idea but afer awhile it gets old. what would you say to me? love your blog and read it all the time. have agreat day

Charity and giving is such a core human concept.
It's pity that it is largely ignored, when now it should be one of our primary focuses.
As humans, its seems all we care about is the next car and the next house, not the smiles and the happiness that comes from making others happy by simply sharing our gifts with them.

Sibyl, really nice, and your alternaview belief that the principle works is a positive reminder. Why do so many adults feel keeping scorecards is so necessary? Do you think it results from an educational system that prizes competition over cooperation? Are we afraid that we may lose out in some way? Why do we spend so much of our life calculating the cost of giving? It's interesting how good we can feel about gifts we joyfully give with no thought of return. So many so-called gifts are actually tokens of social obligation that bind us out of some false sense of duty or fear such as "we had better give or reciprocate, or else." If we truly think about the gifts we have in our own lives we soon realize that the universe is an incredibly generous giver. Resonating to that universal wisdom continues to bring gifts into our lives, and inspires us to keep giving generously from the best part of ourselves. Armen: Living and learning is something that is extremely beneficial to be good and just based on what I read on your blog, I would imagine you are good at. You are always so attentive to those things around you and this is such an important skill. I agree with you about learning from the people around us.
