How to Push Through to Success…
Have you ever tried to accomplish something and encountered some obstacles or setbacks? You developed a plan and began to complete things on your list, and although you had some small successes things just didn’t seem to be falling into place as easily or as quickly as you had expected. You feel gave everything you had and dedicated a lot of time and energy, but despite your commitment, you just aren’t in the position you want to be. You haven’t seen enough little signs of success or hit those milestones that would serve as the motivation you need to continue to devote so much time and energy to what you are trying to do. You wonder if perhaps it is time to just throw in the towel and congratulate yourself for giving it a good old college try?
The alternaview
The alternaview is that we should be motivated even more during these challenging times or when obstacles arise because we recognize we are on the road to success. Many people who encounter these tough times while they are trying to do something will determine that some obstacles are insurmountable. They may even interpret the obstacles to be signs they should give up and just move on. They will allow themselves to become discouraged.
The people who succeed are those people that push through any low times and interpret the challenges as a part of the process. They respond by reassessing their plans and tweaking them where necessary. They acknowledge and are motivated by the signs of success they have had thus far, despite the fact that they may be small. They realize and appreciate they are learning many necessary things along the way that will position them for success. They find the motivation to continue on the path and have an attitude that they will not stop until they are successful. They are confident that success will come.
For some people having the mindset that is necessary to accomplish anything is natural and has always been a part of who they are. For a lot of other people, we must continually work toward developing and maintaining that mindset that will position us for success. We have to push ourselves to understand and appreciate any obstacles so that we can use them as motivation instead of allowing them to be discouraging.
When we genuinely want to integrate this alternaview into our life:
We will redefine our perspective and understand that every obstacle or challenge we encounter is designed to teach us something in one way or another. We will notice what is going on around us and respond accordingly. We will understand that we may need to change our initial approach or tweak our plan based on whatever challenges are arising. Perhaps we look to someone for guidance or ask someone who may have some helpful information for assistance.
We find as many sources of motivation we can. We realize that it was by no means an accident that we initially had this desire and were motivated to begin to work toward it. The idea or opportunity did not just fall from the sky. It was put in front of us for a reason. We are meant to succeed. We will understand that our accomplishments, even if we think they are only small accomplishments, are signs that we should continue. We will allow them to serve as motivation and encourage us to continue to do all we can to work toward our success.
We will take a look at what we are trying to accomplish and make certain that it will provide some good to other people. Perhaps it will provide benefits to our family or friends or even other people we do not know. Maybe people will get support, assistance, entertainment, enjoyment or some other value out of what we are trying to do. Whatever the case may be, we will recognize the importance of ensuring our goal is not just 100% about us, but that it also benefits others. We will be willing to broaden our goal if that is not the case.
We will have the right mindset and outlook on what we are trying to do. We will continually work to clear away any doubts that we will not succeed by replacing those thoughts with thoughts that we will. We will recognize the difference between those people who succeed and those who don’t and understand the importance of having the right perspective. We will know that the road to success is filled with highs and lows and be motivated to continue down the path regardless of what is put in front of us…this is the alternaview.

Hey Sybyl.
I like your point about taking whatever we have accomplished thus far and using it to further our goals. We have obviously come a distance from where we were, and that distance serves as foundational ground for our next attack. I agree with that point and have discussed similar at times.
I would say I do push through to success, so that alternaview would be ingrained in my thoughts. It is not ingrained in the thoughts of many, though. It is a foreign thought to some.

@Armen: Welcome to the alternaview. Thanks for the comment. I think this is one of the more challenging alternaviews to integrate into your life and you are so right that a lot of people have been unable to successfully do so. It is easy to allow little things or issues to be discouraging when instead we really need to acknowledge our small victories and let them serve as motivation to continue. Glad you liked that point.
