One thing we shoul realize: There are not any coincidences in life

Have you ever had those times when you were trying to handle something or complete a project and then someone called or something appeared you were not expecting that helped you do what you were trying to do?  Have you ever had those times when you were trying to make a decision and then things just kept appearing to you throughout the day that seemingly suggested to you what the correct decision should be?  Have you ever run into someone you hadn’t seen in a long time, but had recently been thinking of?  Many times when these things arise in life, we are quick to just shrug them off as coincidences.  We will notice the coincidences and say to ourselves, “isn’t that weird?”

The alternaview
The alternaview is that there are not any coincidences in life.  The things we have classified as coincidences are really signs and guideposts pointing us in the right direction, but if we don’t take notice of them and respond appropriately we will miss them.

We shouldn’t write anything off as a coincidence and we should carefully examine and take note of whatever is appearing in our lives.  As an example, I was asked to participate in a project and volunteer a lot of my free time.  I am pretty attached to my free time and am somewhat reluctant to add activities that I think may cause me to overextend myself.  Consequently, I decided I was not going to get heavily involved with this new project.  However, so many things just started appearing that I couldn’t help but take notice of… I went to an event and ran into a colleague and realized that he would really be able to help make the project a success and things just continued to keep coming up that would help me out with the project.  It was obvious I was meant to be a part of this project and so that is what I chose to do.

We have to be alert to these signs and guideposts so that we are aware they exist and able to be guided and benefit from them.

When we genuinely want to integrate this alternaview into our life:

We need to understand many of the things that appear throughout the day are meant to point and guide us in the right direction in life.  Although many of them may be subtle, we should do all we can to take notice of them and respond appropriately.

We should be on guard for these things to appear and pay attention to what arises.  We should continually make certain we are analyzing and trying to connect those things that we see.  There will obviously be some connections we can dismiss, but we need to sharpen our senses so that we are better able to determine what should be noticed and what is not as important.

We should understand there are clues appearing in our lives continually that can provide many of the answers we are looking for and direction we need.  Once we have this realization and do all we can to integrate this alternaview into our lives, we will notice that things will continue to fall more and more into place.  We just have to pay attention...this is the alternaview.
